Typically, open auto transporting means that 10 cars are carried on a trailer that is open and exposed to the elements. There are usually 5 cars on top and 5 on the bottom.  Open trailers are commonly used for a few reasons. Closed transporting is the ideal option for transporting your vehicle if you’re sensitive to having it exposed to rain, sleet, snow, hail, and other unpredictable weather related occurrences.  Closed auto transporting is usually more expensive. This is because the carrier is heavier and can only hold about 3 cars. Close transporting also requires special safety precautions to keep the vehicles, often antique or luxury, from sliding around and getting damaged in the carrier.
